Professional Development

Developing Talent; Building Capacity

At EAC, we believe that our faculty and staff are our most important resource in realizing our vision and mission.  Consequently, EAC is committed to supporting the professional learning of members of faculty and administrations. Quality professional learning will improve performance and have a positive impact on student learning.

 

Characteristics of Professional Learning at EAC

Effective professional learning results in new learning, evident in changed behavior, which is gained by opportunities to become aware, observe, practice, reflect, and refine. More specifically, effective professional learning  supported by EAC

  • reflects best available practices in teaching & learning, assessment, and leadership & management;
  • enables faculty members to develop further expertise in subject content, teaching strategies, uses of technologies, and other essential elements in teaching to high standards within the following programs:
    • Montessori Program
    • American Standards-Based Program
    • Brazilian Program
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma Program;
  • respects and nurtures the intellectual and leadership capacities of members of faculty and administration;
  • focuses on individual, collegial, and organizational improvement;
  • improves systems;
  • is evaluated ultimately on the basis of impact on student learning, teacher effectiveness, and administrative support teaching and learning.

 

Professional Learning at EAC

EAC offers many professional learning opportunities on our campus facilitated by our own faculty and staff  as well as by outside consultants. In addition, faculty/staff  have the opportunity to attend workshops and conferences in Brazil and  outside of the country. Top priority for planning and funding professional learning is given to school-wide goals and/or team initiatives that will have a direct, observable/measurable impact on student learning.
